Overview
Azure Airlines is built for pilots who want more than simply choosing a different aircraft for every flight.
We recruit in limited numbers and assign each pilot to a specific fleet type based on operational need, experience, and preference. Once assigned, pilots remain on that aircraft for a minimum of six months, allowing them to build genuine familiarity with its systems, procedures, performance, and handling.
Before joining the line, applicants complete a short entrance assessment covering basic aviation knowledge, flight planning, operational decision-making, and familiarity with their chosen aircraft. The goal is not to create an unnecessarily difficult selection process—it is to ensure that every Azure pilot arrives prepared to operate thoughtfully and realistically.
At Azure, we value depth over variety. We want our pilots to know their aircraft, understand their routes, and take pride in becoming trusted members of their fleet.
You will not simply fly an aircraft: you will belong to it.
A Different Kind of Virtual Airline
Many virtual airlines allow pilots to move freely between aircraft with little structure. Azure takes a different approach.
Our pilots develop within a defined fleet, build experience over time, and operate within a realistic network supported by structured schedules, dispatch resources, operational procedures, and proving-based standards.
This creates a stronger sense of identity, progression, and responsibility. When you fly an Azure aircraft, you should understand how it performs, how it is operated, and how to complete the journey professionally from planning to shutdown.

Our recruitment process is intentionally selective—not to make participation difficult, but to build a dependable community of pilots who value preparation, realism, and steady improvement.

Who We Are Looking For
Azure Airlines is looking for pilots who value learning, consistency, and a thoughtful approach to virtual aviation. You do not need to be a real-world pilot, nor are you expected to know every aircraft system from memory before joining. What matters more is your attitude: a willingness to prepare properly, follow established procedures, accept constructive feedback, and steadily develop competence in your assigned aircraft.

Your First Assignment
All new pilots begin their Azure journey at Christchurch Airport, our principal hub and operational home.
When applying, candidates may indicate the aircraft type they would prefer to fly. Wherever fleet capacity, operational requirements, and applicant readiness allow, Azure will try to honour that preference. However, recruitment is conducted according to the needs of the airline, and a preferred fleet assignment cannot always be guaranteed.
Where a requested aircraft type is unavailable, the applicant may be offered a position on another fleet. Candidates are free to accept or decline that assignment before joining. Once accepted, however, the assigned aircraft becomes the pilot’s primary fleet for a minimum of six months.
During this period, pilots are expected to build meaningful experience with the type, develop familiarity with its systems and procedures, and contribute consistently to the operation of their fleet. The purpose of the six-month commitment is not to restrict pilots unnecessarily, but to encourage depth, continuity, and genuine competence rather than frequent movement between aircraft.
After completing the minimum assignment period, pilots may request a fleet transfer. Transfers will be considered based on:
- Available positions within the requested fleet
- Operational requirements
- The pilot’s activity and standing
- Completion of any required assessment or familiarisation
- Demonstrated readiness for the new aircraft type
A transfer is not automatic, and pilots should not assume that completing six months guarantees immediate movement to another fleet. Azure must maintain balanced staffing across its operation, and some requests may need to wait until a suitable vacancy becomes available.
Your first assignment is therefore more than a temporary placement. It is the beginning of your development within Azure—a chance to learn your aircraft properly, become a dependable member of your fleet, and establish the foundation for future progression.
Supported Aircraft & Simulators
Azure currently supports the following aircraft and simulator combinations:
- Airbus A320 Series
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Fenix Simulations A319, A320, and A321 - Embraer E175 Series
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024
FlightSim Studio E-Jets 175 Series
Pilots must own and be able to operate the approved aircraft for their assigned fleet. Additional aircraft may be introduced as Azure expands, but only officially supported aircraft may be used for scheduled operations.
Pilot Commitments
To remain active, Azure pilots are expected to:
- Complete at least four flights per calendar month
- Operate primarily from our initial hub at Christchurch Airport (NZCH)
- Remain assigned to their fleet for a minimum of six months
- Use the approved simulator and aircraft for their fleet
- Follow published routes, schedules, and operational procedures
- Maintain reasonable familiarity with their assigned aircraft
- Communicate with staff if personal circumstances affect activity
Pilots who cannot meet the monthly activity requirement should request a temporary leave of absence rather than simply disappearing into the Tasman Sea.
Before You Apply
Before submitting an application, please make sure you have access to the approved simulator and aircraft for your preferred fleet, and that you are comfortable meeting Azure’s minimum activity and fleet commitment requirements.
Applicants should be prepared to complete a brief entrance assessment covering basic aviation knowledge, operational judgement, and familiarity with their chosen aircraft. The assessment is not designed to catch people out; it helps us understand each applicant’s current level and determine the most suitable fleet assignment.
Please review the following before applying:
- You can complete at least four flights per month
- You are willing to remain with one fleet for at least six months
- You own the required aircraft add-on
- You are willing to follow Azure procedures and schedules
- You are open to constructive feedback and continued learning
- You understand that fleet preferences are considered but not guaranteed
