Virtual Careers
Help Build the Airline Behind the Flights
Our Culture & Values
Azure Airlines is powered by volunteers who share a passion for aviation, flight simulation, community, and realistic airline operations.
Our virtual careers are designed for people who want to contribute beyond the flight deck. Whether your strengths lie in operations, training, technology, communications, pilot support, or community engagement, there may be a meaningful place for you within Azure.
You do not need to be a real-world aviation professional to volunteer with us. What matters most is reliability, sound judgement, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work respectfully as part of a focused team.
Because Azure is still growing, volunteers have the opportunity to help shape more than day-to-day tasks. They may contribute to the standards, systems, policies, and culture that future pilots and team members will experience.
We value people who communicate honestly, take ownership of their responsibilities, and understand the difference between holding a title and making a genuine contribution. Experience is useful, but consistency, maturity, and follow-through matter just as much.
We also understand that real life comes first. Work, family, health, and personal commitments will always take priority. In return, we ask volunteers to be realistic about their availability, stay in communication, and let their team know when circumstances change.
At Azure, the goal is not to create layers of unnecessary management. It is to bring together a small, capable group of people who enjoy building something thoughtful, professional, and lasting.
What You’ll Do
Azure operates with a realistic but streamlined management structure. Our volunteer team supports the airline through clearly defined roles covering operations, technology, marketing, people, training, fleet management, and pilot support.
Depending on the position, volunteers may contribute to:
- Flight operations and scheduling
- Operations control and dispatch
- Pilot recruitment and onboarding
- Flight standards and training
- Fleet and livery management
- Website and technical systems
- Marketing and communications
- Community and people support
- Passenger experience and AzureMiles™
- Station and hub coordination
We aim to give every volunteer enough responsibility to make a genuine contribution, while keeping expectations realistic and ensuring that Azure remains an enjoyable hobby rather than an unpaid second career.
Help Shape What Comes Next
Azure recruits only when there is a genuine need within the airline.
Each opening represents a defined area of responsibility and an opportunity to make a practical contribution to our operations, community, and continued development.
Below you will find our currently available volunteer positions, along with an overview of each role’s responsibilities, preferred skills, and expected level of commitment. Please review the descriptions carefully and apply only for positions that genuinely match your interests, experience, and availability.
We are not looking for impressive titles or oversized promises. We are looking for dependable people who communicate well, follow through, and want to help build Azure thoughtfully.
What You’ll Need
You do not need to submit a formal résumé unless you would like to provide one. Instead, applicants should be prepared to share a brief summary of the experience, skills, or interests that are relevant to the volunteer role.
This may include:
- Previous virtual airline or flight-simulation experience
- Real-world aviation knowledge or training
- Experience in operations, leadership, technology, marketing, community management, or administration
- Familiarity with platforms such as VAMSYS, Discord, Microsoft Flight Simulator, etc.
- Examples of relevant projects, documents, designs, systems, or communities you have supported
- A realistic estimate of your availability and the level of commitment you can maintain
Formal qualifications are not required for every role. We are primarily interested in whether you understand the position, can contribute meaningfully, and are likely to communicate and follow through reliably.
A résumé or portfolio may be submitted voluntarily where it helps demonstrate relevant experience, but neither is required unless specifically stated in the position description.
Explore the available roles below and find where your skills can make the greatest difference.
Open Roles
Below are Azure Airlines’ currently available volunteer opportunities. Each role supports a specific part of the airline, from operations and training to community engagement, technology, and passenger experience.
Please review the role descriptions carefully before applying. We are looking for people whose skills, interests, and availability genuinely match the position—not simply applicants seeking a title.
To apply, complete the application form at the bottom of this page and include a brief summary of your relevant experience. A formal résumé is optional unless a particular role specifically requests one.
Once your application has been reviewed, a member of the Azure team will contact you if your background appears to be a potential fit. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to an informal interview through Discord to discuss the role, expectations, availability, and next steps.
Important Notice
All positions listed on this page are unpaid volunteer roles within a virtual airline created for flight simulation and entertainment purposes. They do not constitute real-world employment, aviation authority, professional certification, or guaranteed appointment. Role availability, responsibilities, and selection requirements may change as Azure Airlines develops. Submission of an application does not guarantee an interview or selection.

This role oversees pilot engagement, recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, retention, internal recognition, and community feedback.
Working closely with the Chief Flight Standards & Training Officer, Chief Pilots, and other members of the leadership team, the CPO helps ensure that pilots feel supported throughout their time with Azure—from initial application and onboarding through continued development and progression.
This is a people-focused leadership role. The successful candidate should be approachable, fair, organised, and capable of balancing community warmth with clear standards and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
The Chief People Officer will:

- Monitor pilot engagement, retention, morale, and community participation
- Assist with internal recognition, feedback, and progression initiatives
- Serve as a point of contact for pilot concerns and community-related matters

- Coordinate internal events, surveys, recognition programmes, and engagement activities
- Assist with resolving interpersonal concerns in a fair and constructive manner
- Recommend improvements to recruitment, onboarding, communication, and retention processes
- Support leadership in ensuring that policies are applied consistently and respectfully
What We Are Looking For
Applicants should be:
- At least 18 years old
Familiar with flight simulation and virtual airline communities - Knowledgeable about basic aviation concepts and airline operations
- Comfortable communicating with pilots of different experience levels
- Patient, respectful, discreet, and capable of handling sensitive concerns
- Organised and able to follow through on agreed responsibilities
- Open to constructive discussion and collaborative decision-making
- Able to exercise sound judgement rather than reacting impulsively
- Willing to support both community enjoyment and reasonable operational standards
- Comfortable working through Discord and other online collaboration platforms
Previous experience in virtual airline management, community moderation, recruitment, mentoring, human resources, training, team leadership, or volunteer coordination is highly desirable, but not mandatory. Real-world aviation, management, employment, legal, education, or people-support experience may also be helpful.
Time Commitment
This is a continuing volunteer leadership position rather than a one-time project.
The expected commitment will vary depending on recruitment activity and community needs, but applicants should be able to:
- Check internal communications regularly
- Respond to important matters within a reasonable timeframe
- Attend occasional leadership meetings
- Assist with recruitment and onboarding when positions are open
- Remain visible and engaged within the Azure community
- Communicate honestly when real-world responsibilities affect availability
Azure understands that work, family, health, and personal commitments come first. We value realistic availability and dependable communication more than exaggerated promises.
Application Requirements
A formal résumé is not required, although applicants may provide one if they believe it is helpful. Applicants should instead submit a brief summary covering:
- Relevant flight-simulation or virtual airline experience
- Any leadership, recruitment, mentoring, moderation, or people-management experience
- Familiarity with aviation or airline operations
- Why the role interests them
- Their general weekly availability
- How they would approach supporting pilots while maintaining standards
- Any relevant examples of communities, teams, or projects they have supported
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an informal interview through Discord.
The Right Fit
The ideal candidate is not someone seeking an impressive title. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping people, strengthening teams, and building a healthy community. A strong Chief People Officer should be able to listen without becoming passive, enforce standards without becoming authoritarian, and support pilots without treating every inconvenience as a federal emergency.
If you are fair-minded, reliable, approachable, and interested in helping shape the culture of a growing virtual airline, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Operations Roles
Operations Control Center (OCC) Manager
Operations Control Center (OCC) Manager
Volunteer Operational Leadership Position
About the Role
Azure Airlines is seeking a capable, organised, and operationally minded volunteer to serve as our Operations Control Center Manager.
The OCC Manager is responsible for overseeing Azure’s day-to-day virtual flight activity and helping ensure that scheduled operations run safely, realistically, and efficiently. This role sits at the centre of the airline’s operational network, supporting pilots, monitoring active flights, and coordinating decisions when weather, routing, airport conditions, or other operational factors require adjustment.
Working closely with the Director of Flight Operations, Flight Dispatch Team, Chief Pilots, and Station or Hub Managers, the OCC Manager helps maintain situational awareness across the network and ensures that operational issues are handled in a calm, structured, and practical manner.
This is a detail-oriented role for someone who enjoys the planning and coordination behind airline operations—not just the flying itself.
Key Responsibilities
The OCC Manager will:
- Monitor active Azure flights and overall network activity
- Support dispatch coordination, route planning, and fuel-planning processes
- Review weather, NOTAMs, airport restrictions, and operational conditions
- Coordinate route, departure, arrival, or alternates adjustments when needed
- Assist pilots with operational questions before and during flights
- Work with Flight Operations and Chief Pilots to resolve disruptions
- Maintain awareness of aircraft rotations, schedules, and fleet availability
- Coordinate with Station and Hub Managers on local operational matters
- Support realistic responses to delays, cancellations, diversions, and irregular operations
- Help develop OCC procedures, checklists, guidance, and internal documentation
- Ensure important operational information is communicated clearly and promptly
- Support operations conducted on approved online networks where applicable
What We Are Looking For
Applicants should be:
- At least 18 years old
- Experienced with Microsoft Flight Simulator and virtual airline operations
- Familiar with basic airline dispatch, routing, fuel planning, and flight monitoring
- Comfortable reading aviation weather products and NOTAMs
- Knowledgeable about IFR flight planning and airline operational concepts
- Able to remain calm and make sensible decisions when plans change
- Organised, dependable, and attentive to detail
- Comfortable communicating clearly with pilots and staff
- Willing to follow Azure’s procedures while exercising practical judgement
- Able to work collaboratively with Flight Operations, dispatch, and fleet leadership
Experience with VAMSYS, ACARS systems, SimBrief, Navigraph, or similar platforms is highly desirable.
Real-world experience in aviation, dispatch, airline operations, air traffic control, logistics, emergency coordination, or flight planning may also be helpful, but is not required.
Time Commitment
This is a continuing volunteer operational role.
The level of activity will depend on Azure’s flight schedule, events, staffing, and network growth. Applicants should be able to:
- Check operational channels regularly
- Support selected periods of flight activity
- Respond to important operational matters within a reasonable timeframe
- Attend occasional operations or leadership meetings
- Assist during group flights, events, or periods of increased activity
- Help maintain OCC documents and procedures
- Communicate clearly when real-world commitments affect availability
The role does not require someone to sit in front of a screen monitoring imaginary airplanes all day. It does require reliability when you have agreed to be available.
Application Requirements
A formal résumé is not required, although applicants may provide one voluntarily.
Applicants should submit a brief summary covering:
- Relevant flight-simulation or virtual airline experience
- Familiarity with dispatch, flight planning, weather, NOTAMs, or network operations
- Experience with tools such as SimBrief, Navigraph, VAMSYS, ACARS, VATSIM, IVAO, or POSCON
- Any real-world aviation, logistics, operations, or coordination experience
- Why the OCC Manager role interests them
- Their general availability
- An example of how they would handle a significant weather disruption, diversion, or airport closure
- Any previous experience leading or coordinating a team
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an informal interview through Discord and may be asked to complete a short practical scenario.
The Right Fit
The ideal OCC Manager is someone who enjoys solving operational problems, keeping track of moving parts, and helping pilots make sound decisions.
We are not looking for someone who treats every delay as an aviation catastrophe or every weather deviation as a personal insult. We are looking for someone who can assess the situation, communicate clearly, and help the operation keep moving.
If you are calm under pressure, technically curious, dependable, and interested in the operational backbone of a virtual airline, this may be the right role for you.

- Capable of balancing realism with practicality
- Willing to work collaboratively with OCC, Flight Operations, and fleet leadership
- Comfortable using Discord and other online operational tools
Experience with VAMSYS, ACARS, SimBrief, Navigraph, GSX, airport charts, or similar systems is highly desirable.
Previous experience in virtual airline management, airport operations, dispatch, logistics, event coordination, or community support may also be helpful.

- Support selected periods of NZCH activity
- Respond to important station matters within a reasonable timeframe
- Attend occasional operations meetings
- Assist during group flights or special events
- Help maintain hub-related procedures and documentation
- Communicate clearly when real-world commitments affect availability
The role does not require constant monitoring of every virtual baggage cart in Canterbury. It does require someone who can be dependable when station support is needed.
Application Requirements
A formal résumé is not required, although applicants may provide one voluntarily.
Applicants should submit a brief summary covering:
- Relevant flight-simulation or virtual airline experience
- Familiarity with Christchurch Airport and New Zealand operations

- Any previous experience coordinating people, schedules, or operational activity
Shortlisted candidates may be invited to an informal interview through Discord and may be asked to complete a brief operational scenario.
The Right Fit
The ideal Station & Hub Manager is someone who enjoys organisation, coordination, and the small operational details that make an airline feel believable.
We are looking for someone who can keep track of gates, aircraft, schedules, and people without turning every late turnaround into a royal commission.
If you are reliable, practical, detail-oriented, and interested in helping make Christchurch feel like the living heart of Azure’s network, this may be the right role for you.
