Based in Dunedin, South Island Airlines is working with Azure Airlines toward a proposed regional codeshare and operating partnership designed to strengthen connectivity across New Zealand.
Under the proposed arrangement, South Island Airlines would expand the Azure network through services connecting Dunedin with regional destinations throughout the country. The airline would also assume the mantle of AzureConnect, operating selected services under the AzureConnect brand from both Dunedin and Christchurch.
Using a fleet of De Havilland Dash 8-300 and Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft, South Island Airlines would provide branded regional service throughout the South Island and to selected destinations in the North Island. These aircraft are well suited to routes where frequency, flexibility, and access to smaller regional airports are especially important.
The proposed partnership would allow South Island Airlines to continue operating under its own identity while also supporting Azure Airlines through dedicated AzureConnect services. Together, the two airlines aim to build a more integrated domestic network while maintaining shared standards of professionalism, reliability, community service, and operational realism.
